Justin Bieber, Skrillex Sued Over 'Sorry' Hook

Justin Bieber, Skrillex Sued Over 'Sorry' Hook:

Casey Dienel, an indie artist who records under the moniker White Hinterland, has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Justin Bieber, alleging that the singer's hit "Sorry" borrows heavily from her 2014 track "Ring the Bell."

"As many of you that follow my career and work have already recognized, Justin Bieber's song 'Sorry' copies the vocal riff prominently featured in my song 'Ring the Bell,'" Dienel wrote on Facebook. "The writers, producers and performers of 'Sorry' did not obtain a license for this exploitation of my work, nor did they obtain or seek my permission. Yesterday afternoon, I filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement against Justin Bieber and the other responsible parties."

The lawsuit, which names Bieber as well as producer Skrillex, focuses on the opening vocal melody of both tracks. "Like most artists that sample music, Bieber could have licensed my song for use in 'Sorry.' But he chose not to contact me," Dienel continued. "After the release of 'Sorry,' my lawyers sent Bieber a letter regarding the infringement, but Bieber’s team again chose to ignore me." Dienel added that she was left with "no other option" but to file a lawsuit in order to "stand up for my music and art."

The suit lists the similarities between "Sorry" and "Ring the Bell." According to TMZ, the lawsuit accuses "Sorry" of stealing eight seconds of "Ring the Bell" and looping it six times, and notes that both songs are constructed around keyboard synthesizers, samples, synth bass, drums and percussion. "The identical and/or striking similarity of 'Sorry' to Plaintiff's song 'Ring the Bell' surpasses the realm of generic coincidence and independent creation," the lawsuit states.

Bieber and Skrillex have not responded publicly to White Hinterland's lawsuit. It's unclear how much Dienel is seeking in the suit.

"Creating original and unique music is my life's passion, but it is challenging and time-consuming," Dienel wrote. "I poured my blood, sweat and tears into writing and producing 'Ring the Bell,' and I am proud of the finished product, which Rolling Stone listed as one of its 'favorite songs, albums, and videos.' Throughout my career, I have worked very hard to preserve my independence and creative control, thus it came as a shock to hear my work used and exploited without permission."

Compare the opening of both tracks below:

Skrillex Refutes Justin Bieber Lawsuit: 'Sorry But We Didn't Steal This':

Skrillex, who was named in the lawsuit filed against Justin Bieber over the hit "Sorry," has responded to the copyright infringement allegations. "SORRY but we didn't steal this," the producer tweeted alongside a video of how the songwriters crafted, and not sampled, the "Sorry" vocal hook at the center of the lawsuit.

On Thursday, indie artist Casey Dienel, who performs under the moniker White Hinterland, revealed that she had sued Bieber, Skrillex and the other songwriters involved in "Sorry."

— SKRILLEX (@Skrillex) May 27, 2016

Late Friday afternoon, Skrillex took to social media to show how the vocal hook was created: Using an a cappella demo by "Sorry" co-songwriter Julia Michaels, Skrillex manipulated the pitch and contorted the semitones to form a vocal melody that, aurally, resembles the opening notes of "Ring the Bell," but is clearly not a sample of the "Ring the Bell" recording.

In Dienel's Facebook post, the singer wrote, "Like most artists that sample music, Bieber could have licensed my song for use in 'Sorry.' But he chose not to contact me." She added that, after a letter alleging infringement from her lawyers to Bieber's representatives went ignored, she was left with "no other option" but to file a lawsuit in order to "stand up for my music and art."

Before Skrillex posted the video showing how the "Sorry" hook was made, his Jack U partner Diplo acknowledged the similarities between "Sorry" and "Ring the Bell" in an impromptu interview with TMZ. The producer added that the situations often arise when there are "too many cooks" working on a song, and that Bieber might have to settle the lawsuit.

Watch Justin Bieber's Vibrant Billboard Music Awards Performance

Watch Justin Bieber's Vibrant Billboard Music Awards Performance:

Justin Bieber performed a medley of new single "Company" with his hit "Sorry" at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night. Both songs appear on his fourth album Purpose, released last November.

Bieber emerged onstage bathed in aqua club lighting singing "Company" with a phalanx of background dancers and acrobats dressed in white. The smooth set came to a climax once trumpets signaled Bieber's chart-crushing hit "Sorry." The singer knelt to shake hands with fans, with whom he has had a rocky relationship with this past month.

Earlier this year, Bieber took home his first Grammy award for Best Dance Recording alongside Jack Ü for their inescapable collaboration "Where Are Ü Now." At the ceremony, Bieber, Skrillex and Diplo turned the song into a rock jam with the EDM superproducers moving from behind the boards to behind guitars and drums.

Bieber is currently in the midst of his Purpose world tour. Within the first couple weeks of being on the road, he canceled all future fan meet-and-greets for the current tour, revealing that they left hi "drained and unhappy." For similar reasons, Bieber has also revealed that he will no longer take photos with fans who see or meet him in public, stating that it makes him feel like a "zoo animal."

Britney Spears opened up the Billboard Music Awards with a medley of hits. Watch here.

Justin Bieber Slams 'Fake' Awards Shows

Justin Bieber Slams 'Fake' Awards Shows:

In his latest Instagram missive, Justin Bieber wrote about his disdain for awards shows after performing at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.

"I don't know about these award shows," wrote the 22-year-old pop star. "No disrespect to anybody at any of the shows or the people running it. Nothing but love for you guys and your support. But I don't feel good when I'm there nor after ... A lot of people in the audience there [seem to be] worried about how much camera time they will get or who they can network with ... These award shows seem so hollow."

Since the launch of his Purpose world tour, Bieber has taken to Instagram as a platform for discussing his discomfort with some of the more social aspects of being as famous a musician. He canceled all future meet-and-greets for his current tour, revealing how "drained and unhappy" they leave him. Earlier this month, he revealed that he would no longer take photos with fans because it makes him feel like a "zoo animal." Unlike these free-roaming sheep:
I don't know about these award shows.. No disrespect to anybody at any of the shows or the people running it. Nothing but love for you guys and your support. But I don't feel good when I'm there nor after. I try to think of it as a celebration but can't help feeling like people are rating and grading my performance. A lot of people in the audience there to be seem worried about how much camera time they will get or who they can network with. When I'm doing a regular show I feel they are there for the right reasons and to strictly have a good time! But these award shows seem so hollow. I get the premise is to award people for their accomplishments, but is it really? Because when I look in the audience I see a bunch of fake smiles so that when the camera hits them they look happy. Sure there are people truly proud of others so I don't want to knock them I'm just looking at the vast majority. I just think to myself if I'm living my purpose I want the reward to be fulfillment. I'm getting awarded for the things that I'm doing and not for who I am which is understandable I know it would probably be hard to calculate and award someone's spirit lol. But When I do get these awards the temptation of putting my worth in what I do is so hard to fight!!!I am privileged and honored to be recognized by my peers in but in these settings I can't feel the recognition. There's an authenticity missing that I crave! And I wonder does anybody else.. Sorry not sorry about grammar it's not my strong point

During his stop in New York City for the Purpose World Tour last week, Justin Bieber squeezed in a trip to the tattoo parlor.

At West 4 Tattoo, Bieber and his friend, Joe Termini, got matching cross designs under their left eyes. Jonathan "JonBoy" Valena, who has also served as Kylie Jenner's tattoo artist, was behind the body art. He showed off his creation on Instagram.

Bieber's going back on his word with this. When asked by GQ in February if he'd ever get ink on his face, he responded, "Maybe when I'm really old, but not super old. Maybe like 40s or 50s or something." Clearly, he couldn't wait that long.

A liar, he lied to me https://t.co/I9pyrLUHRu

He also told GQ he'd prefer "one above my eyebrow or something small." He only fulfilled half of that promise, but we can't fault him for changing his mind.

Justin Bieber took to Instagram to share pics of his drastically different new haircut last night.
Bieber shaved off the dreadlocks and has opted for a close buzz cut, instead. He didn't just ditch

the dreads. He lost the blonde highlights, too.
The first pic was blurry, but fans could easily see the radical change.

The next shot he shared pulled the new buzz cut into sharp focus. It's a more serious look for Bieber.

As his Purpose World Tour rolls on, maybe he just wanted a more low-maintenance look.

Xenia Deli, Justin Bieber's Video Girlfriend, Makes Her 'Love' Advent Debut

Xenia Deli, Justin Bieber's Video Girlfriend, Makes Her 'Love' Advent Debut:

This was, without a doubt, an extraordinary year for Justin Bieber. Aside from a fashion-forward image reinvention and a surprisingly successful public redemption tour, the singer racked up a handful of hits, including the very catchy "What Do You Mean," which had an equally sexy music video to go along with it. The female star of said video was Xenia Deli, a 25-year-old Moldovan model and actress who was plucked from relative obscurity to portray Bieber's love interest, immediately catching the attention of some very jealous Beliebers. Apparently, she also caught the eye of Katie Grand and the team at Love, since Deli makes her debut in the magazine's digital Advent calendar on Monday.

In the cheeky clip directed by Sam Faulkner, Deli dances and lip-syncs along to the very hit that made her famous, wearing a retro bra and high-waisted panty set. She's pretty adorable, and certainly holds her own against some of the Advent's other big-name stars, including Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, and Bella Hadid. One of Grand's most well-known talents is her ability to discover the "next big thing" before anyone else, so if Deli's spot in this year's Advent lineup is any indication, we'll be seeing plenty more of her in 2016.

We can't say we're surprised!

Tuesday night's finale of The Voice left quite a few people happy, particularly winner Jordan Smith and his coach Adam Levine.

But the contestant and his mentor took a back seat to another singer who appeared on the show last night -- Justin Bieber!

The 21-year-old stopped by the show to sing his hit song Sorry, and he had nothing to apologize for -- he absolutely killed it!

JB started the song off on a slow note playing the piano before the beat picked up and the backup dancers came out to play.

But Justin wasn't the only epic act of the night as Missy Elliot and Pharrell Williams sang WTF (Where They From) and Usher joined Smith on stage to perform Without You!

Ch-ch-check out the AH-Mazing performances (below) and let us know what your favorite moment was!

Justin Bieber certainly has a type!

The Sorry singer was spotted leaving West Hollywood's The Nice Guy just moments after Kourtney Kardashian Kendall Jenner on Tuesday night!

Yup. While it's been rumored the 21-year-old has been hooking up with the supermodel's oldest sister (and at the same hotspot no less!), it seems he's looking to get cozy with someone a bit closer in age.

And Kendy is just a year younger than him!

Though it is kind of strange that the Biebs might try to make Kourt jelly with her little sis, but then again, he and the leggy lady are close friends!

Maybe this is some sort of plan they cooked up! Who knows??

What do U think???

Justin Bieber Was Baptized By Eccentric Pastor Carl Lentz In THIS NBA Star's Bathtub After His 2013 String Of Legal Troubles!:

justin-bieber-baptized-bathtub__oPt.jpg

Well that is a choice!

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Justin Bieber decided to be baptized in a particularly odd location following his fall from grace back in 2013.

In fact, the Sorry singer turned to eccentric pastor Carl Lentz during his troubled period and reportedly had an intense heart-to-heart that lead him to ask to be baptized. Allegedly, the Baby performer was sobbing and "ravaged by feelings of loss" while praying with the minister.

Related: Justin & Kourtney Kardashian Have Been Hooking Up For Months

The spiritual guide to the stars revealed in the January issue of GQ that he reached out to one of his followers/NBA star Tyson Chandler for assistance in the religious ceremony.

Apparently, Carl called up the Phoenix Suns athlete and asked if he and the Biebs could use his tub. Whoa!

It's said J.B.'s baptism took place back in January 2014 after one of Tyson's games. Initially, the pop sensation was supposed to be baptized in the 33-year-old's swimming pool but since it was closed they were forced to use the bathtub.

That makes more sense!

Still Justin isn't the only A-lister associated with Carl as his former flame Selena Gomez, as well as Kendall Jenner and Kevin Durant, have worked with the preacher. Wow!

Though it appears the 21-year-old's saved moment didn't last long since shortly thereafter he was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and other charges. Oof!

Regardless, we're happy to report that Selly G's ex seems to have gotten his act together now. Phew!

On the Charts: Justin Bieber's 'Purpose' Crushes One Direction

On the Charts: Justin Bieber's 'Purpose' Crushes One Direction:

In the final sales week before Adele's 25 puts an indefinite stranglehold on the Billboard 200's Number One spot, Justin Bieber's Purpose proved victorious in its much-ballyhooed competition against One Direction's Made in the A.M. Despite predictions that it would be a close race for the top spot, Bieber's first studio album in over three years grabbed Number One with relative ease after Purpose sold 649,000 total copies in its first week, giving the album the temporary crown of 2015's highest-selling week until Adele claims that honor seven days from now, Billboard reports.

Related: 5 Things Justin Bieber Could Teach Zayn Malik

Purpose marked Bieber's sixth consecutive Number One album. Of Purpose's 649,000 copies sold, 522,000 units came from pure album sales, with the rest of that total coming from a combination of a la carte song downloads and streaming figures. Still, it was more than enough to topple One Direction, whose first album as a quartet claimed the Number Two spot with 459,000 total copies sold, 402,000 of which were pure album sales. In what's some good pre-Black Friday news for the music industry, this week marked the first time since December 2009 that the Number One and Two albums both sold more than 400,000 copies apiece.

As the holiday season approaches, a bunch of new releases flooded shelves, resulting in a vastly different Top 10 than previous weeks. In fact, eight of this week's Top 10 were new releases: After Bieber and One Direction, Logic's The Incredible True Story grabbed Number Three, followed by Jeezy's Church in These Streets (Number Four), Chris Young's I'm Comin' Over (Number Five) and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's latest set Letters From the Labyrinth (Number Seven).

Alessia Cara's Know It All and Kirk Franklin's Losing My Religionat Nine and 10 respectively, rounded out the debuts in the Top 10. The only remnants from last week's Top 10 were Chris Stapleton's Traveller at Number Six and the Weeknd's Beauty Behind the Madness at Number Eight.

Next week, we'll find out just how many records Adele's 25 breaks on her way to Number One; early forecasts predict the album will smash the single-week sales record currently held by N'Sync's No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4 million when it arrived in March 2000.

This Service Will Anonymously Text Your Friends Justin Bieber Lyrics:

beebsEMBED
Jim Smeal/REX Shutterstock
If it’s not too late to say sorry, you can text your ex (or anyone with a working US phone number) a series of Bieber lyrics from a random number for just a dollar. Technically, you can always do that for free, but using the service Bieber Bomb will have the texts sent from anonymous number. For an extra dollar, the conversation can be sent to you in secret. And, for $2.50, you can text three people. You get the idea.

They’ll probably be like, “What do you mean?” and then guess what? The Bieber Bomb will text right back? “What do you mean?” With any luck that can go on for a few texts before they throw their phone through a window.

Ideally, you send one of these to someone when they’re sitting with you so you can watch them getting increasingly upset at the Bieber texts. But maybe if they’re a Belieber, they’ll know instantly and fall in love with the Bieber Bomber from afar. If it’s your significant other, maybe they’ll even leave you for the Bieber Bomber because the text bot is the only one that truly understands them. Maybe the Bieber Bot will ruin your life, and crush your SO's dreams when they find out that there is no true love and that they’ve just fallen in love with a robot.

This is exactly like the plot of the movie Her but more brutal and more real. Technology hasn’t turned on anyone this badly since DJ Khaled got lost at sea on his jetski.

"I so do not know how to deal with this," she wrote, along with noting that several fake social media sites have sprung up in her name after Beliebers brought her to their idol's attention.

Bieber’s quest to find the gorgeous brunette comes after fans thought he might be pining for another brunette: his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

After the "Good For You" singer was spotted getting cozy with One Direction heartthrob Niall Horan at a birthday party Friday night, Bieber shared a throwback photo of him and Gomez together.

For those speculating that Bieber wants to reconnect with his ex, a source told  People that while the two "care about each other and miss each other, they're not getting back together right now."

As for Lima, she and several other famous beauties can be seen walking in the 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, airing at 10 p.m. on CBS.

Watch Justin Bieber Sing in the Rain During 2015 AMAs Finale:

The 2015 American Music Awards closed with Justin Bieber performing three of his most recent hits. Dressed casually in an oversized hoodie, the singer began the medley with an acoustic version of "What Do You Mean?" – the lead single off his latest album, Purpose. He followed that up with a dance-heavy delivery of his EDM collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo, "Where Are Ü Now" before capping off the night with a rain-soaked performance of the moombahton-tinged "Sorry."

The Canadian pop star released Purpose, his fourth album, earlier this month. The LP features several tracks produced by Skrillex and guest spots from Big Sean, Nas, Travi$ Scott and newcomer Halsey. Ed Sheeran also served as a co-writer on the biting, acoustic track "Love Yourself."

Just two days before releasing the album, Bieber announced an extensive North American tour in support of it. The trek launches in Seattle on March 9th and will wrap on July 19th at Madison Square Garden.
